Wieland Links up for Golfing Hotel

Installation of lighting at an extension to The Grove, London's Country Estate, near Chandlers Cross, Hertfordshire, has made use of the gesis® pluggable modular wiring system from Wieland Electric. gesis® 3 and 4 pole modules were selected for the project by design and build electrical contractors T Clarke for speed of installation as well as the technical support provided by Wieland throughout the project.

The Grove is an award-winning 5-star hotel and golf course set in 300 acres of privately owned parkland on the former estate of the Earls of Clarendon. At the heart of the complex is a Grade II listed mansion house which has been extended to provide an additional 201 bedrooms along with meeting and banqueting facilities and a restaurant.

"With hotels, the lighting requirements are inclined to change on a regular basis so we opted for a flexible system based on a lighting control system linked to the lighting using the Wieland system," explained Paul Keogh of T Clarke. "We used 6-pole connections to fluorescent lighting and 4-pole connections to low voltage lighting, providing a high level of flexibility and allowing luminaires to be interchangeable as and when required. We received a high level of support from Wieland, at the design stage and in dealing with changes as the project progressed," he added.

gesis® is an intelligent connector system from Wieland Electric for all applications in electrical installations. It uses prefabricated connections which are simply plugged together on site, providing a fast, safe alternative to stripping cables, cutting them to length or making terminal connections.

At The Grove, gesis® connectors were initially sent to luminaire manufacturers for factory fitting to the luminaires, allowing them to be plugged into the wiring system on site. Later on in the project, connectors were wired up on site to keep pace with the progress of the work.
